1812 Encampment at Maidstone Museum
Step back to the days of the War of 1812 at the Maidstone Museum’s 1812 Encampment, May 28-29, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 1093 Puce Road. Daily demonstrations with period re-enactors, including actor David Morris, as Voyageur Jean Baptist Dumont and Tecumseh. Battle re-enactment at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day. Admission charges.
Young Feather Show
The Essex-Kent Cage Bird Society’s Annual Young Feather Show is May 29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the barn area of Colasanti’s Tropical Gardens, Ruthven. The public is invited for a free showing of birds of many varieties and colours, including finches, canaries, parrots, cockatiels, budgies and love birds.
10th Annual Bike Trek
The Lung Association’s 10th Annual Bike Trek weekend is May 28-29, featuring one and two-day biking adventures. It raises funds to support Ontario Lung Association initiatives in the Essex County-Windsor region. Three bike treks are available. Rider registration and minimum pledges required. Essex Community Services
Essex Community Services is opening its third foot clinic, staffed by advance foot care nurses, at the new McGregor Community Centre, in June. The Clinic will be opening in June. Clinics are currently located at Essex Community Services and at the Harrow Arena Community Room. Appointments required. ECS is also holding a Care-A-Van trip to Colasanti’s Tropical Gardens, May 25. Woodslee Friendship Club
Woodslee Friendship Club plays euchre every Mondays at 1 p.m. and Fridays at 7 p.m. The second Friday of every month there is a potluck supper at 6 p.m. followed by pepper and euchre. Needlecrafters meet every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. This all takes place at the Millen Community Centre, 1925 South Middle Road, South Woodslee. Fun at the Essex Retirees Social Club
The fun continues at the Senior’s Centre. Shuffleboard takes place on Mondays at 10 a.m. We play pepper every Monday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. and also on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. The VON nurse is here for “one on one” senior’s health counselling on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday evenings is bridge night. Cribbage is played every Friday at 10 a.m. If you like to sing come out for choral group on Fridays at 1 p.m. All are welcome. For more details on activities, call 519-776-6689.

Catch for the Cure needs fishing rods
Donations of new and used fishing rods and tackle are needed for the “Catch For A Cure” fishing derby, July 10, to benefit the Leukemia, Lymphoma Society of Canada.
